I'm coming down to SLO this afternoon, if you want to meet up to get your case. Give me a call, 805-215-9993.

I agree with Andy, Ishoppe was a bit of a mad house last night. I think the biggest help would be advance notice on magic events, so that we can plan on relocating to game theory when that happens.

yeah, I agree...though Todd makes quite a bit more money off the card gamers, and he can pack more in per square foot of space...more bodies = more potential beverage/food sales, etc...not to mention the proffits he gets from draft tournaments where you have to buy decks to enter.

I always make it a point to buy at least one drink from Ishoppe every Friday, it's the very least I can do to support the place I get to hang out at and play games. Im not suggesting that others should feel obligated to do this, I just thought I'd share my point of view. I appreciate that the employees let us occasionally close the place with them, its nice to not have to be cleaned up and out the door by 10pm.

I can't complain that Todd is just trying to do the best he can to drum up business. I would, however, consider going on a different night, or...would appreciate advanced notice on potential Max-Occupancy events, so that we and our huge game tables can find another venue to stretch out at and give other players notice to show up at the right place.

agree.

Also, talking to Todd I got the impression that the mini-gamers in general where spending quite a bit more money there then the CCG people in general. The one off events are different though.

Hey guys ... sorry about the lack of warning. Magic the Gathering has owned my life for the last two weeks with their latest release. First the Prerelease at the end of January (Saturday) and last Friday's Release party ... we've been marketing it all over the place but somewhere in that I lost track of who had and who had not been warned :( I am very relieved that the whole thing is over and we can return to a semi-normal life (including on Fridays).

WoTC requires that Friday Night Magic (FNM) events are ONLY hosted on Fridays (except in Europe - go fig?) if players want the points and promo cards. I am concerned that this will interfere with the wargamers (you) so we switched to a Standard (Type 2) format for our FNM ... this limits us to 16 players which is fine with me. This also means on a normal Friday evening, with 20+ wargamers and 16 Magic players we should be just fine. My biggest challenge now is providing better seating ... the park benches are simply not adequate anymore. On that note, we (the owners) are going to work on getting some Eight foot folding tables to keep at the Shoppe permanently as well as some other seating layouts to utilize space more efficiently.

Assuming we remove the MtG players for a moment, did the couch/table layout last Friday work better or worse? Thoughts on setup?

The fact is, dollar for dollar, the wargamers are more cost effective as a customer (less hassle, more money spending) so I want to make sure that as we attempt to support our Magic clientele we do not crowd out our Wargamers ... if I just tried to make money on MtGers I'd be broke :)

I think the couch being on the wall was good, as it gave a perfect fit for 2 4x4 tables in that alcove, while not really impacting the main floor space too much either.

Glad to here that Todd :)

The couches worked well there and we have just enough room for two tables out of the way the way we had them set up last friday.

Thanks!
